Experiences

Chusmiza Hot Springs

About 700 meters from the hostel, with three thermal areas at different temperatures. They are managed by the indigenous community Chusmiza Usmagama and the entrance fee of $6,000 per person is paid there.

Night hot springs

Every day, from 21:00 to 00:00, under the starry sky of the foothills. $17,000 per person, with prior reservation.

Outdoor hot tub

From 15:00 to 20:00, with water at 25–30 °C. One hour of exclusive use with two drinks for $20,000, with prior reservation.

Hiking with llamas

With Inti, Phuyu, Amaru, and Kusi, the hostel's llamas, to the Aymara refuge (3 km, about 2 hours) or to the petroglyphs (6 km, about 3 hours). For guests, $20,000 and $30,000 per person. Booking 72 hours in advance, minimum 2 people; recommended minimum age: 12 years.

Trekking in the ravine

Aymara trails and sections of the Inca trail around Chusmiza, with a guide. Due to the altitude, it is advisable to do it from the day after your arrival.

Lunches and dinners

With prior reservation, from a local provider: starter, main course with side dish, homemade bread, pebre, natural juice, and tea or coffee. Between $13,000 and $16,000 per person; vegan and vegetarian options available.

Frequently asked questions

Do the rooms have private bathrooms?

Yes, six: Alpaca, Guanaco, Llama, Vicuña, AYNI, and Condor. Suri, Vizcacha, Quirquincho, and Taruka share two unisex bathrooms with hot water, shampoo, and conditioner.

Do the rooms have heating?

No. The hostel operates with solar energy and heaters are not allowed. Each bed has three thermal polar blankets, and the common area PachaPaka, covered, has a gas stove. We are at about 3,300 m altitude and the nights are cold: bring warm clothes.

How far are the hot springs?

The Chusmiza Hot Springs are about 700 meters away. They are managed by the Chusmiza Usmagama indigenous community and the entrance fee of $6,000 per person is paid there. In addition, there are night hot springs every day from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with prior reservation ($17,000 per person).

What does breakfast include?

Included every day from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: local homemade bread, clay pot with scrambled eggs, butter, jam, tea, and coffee.

Do children pay?

From 8 years old, children pay as adults (with ID card). Children under 8 pay $6,000 per night, which corresponds to their breakfast. All count towards the room capacity.

Do you accept pets?

No. Due to the proximity to Volcán Isluga National Park, a protected area, pets are not allowed in the hostel.

What is the cancellation policy?

With 7 days or more in advance, 70% is refunded. With at least 72 hours, you can choose between changing the date once or receiving a 60% refund. With less than 72 hours, there is no refund. Discounted rates and packages are non-refundable and non-reschedulable. Write to us at reservas@altiplanotravel.cl.

Can I arrive after 8:00 p.m.?

The reception is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you arrive later, coordinate beforehand via WhatsApp: after-hours reception has a cost of $5,000 per hour. If you do not arrive before 8:00 p.m. and did not notify, the booking will be canceled.
